The problem

A product that could plausibly serve manufacturing, facilities, or field services isn't a strength yet — it's noise. Fresh off a first round of funding, with pressure to move fast, the instinct is to keep every door open. That instinct is exactly what stalls early GTM: a complex product needs education before it needs demand, and founder-led sales without a shared narrative burns time explaining instead of selling.

What actually happened

  • Committed to one vertical — manufacturing — and aligned every piece of messaging, content, and positioning to it.

  • Reframed the core idea from academic language ("tacit knowledge") into a problem manufacturing leaders already recognize: what happens when veteran workers retire and the know-how walks out with them.

  • Built the first press release, a blog, and a manufacturing-specific page written for search intent — not a pitch.

  • Instrumented GA4 and Search Console so early signal could actually be measured, not guessed at.

What "traction" looked like this early

Not leads — attention. Month-over-month growth in search impressions on manufacturing knowledge-loss topics. Visitors spending real time (over a minute) on long-form content with zero paid distribution behind it. Nearly two minutes on the manufacturing use-case page — the signature of someone who already knows they have the problem, not someone casually browsing.

This might feel familiar if:

  • You just raised your first outside capital.

  • Every advisor has a different opinion about who you should sell to.

  • Sales conversations take too long to explain before they get anywhere.

  • You know the product works — the story just isn't landing yet.
